Complaint rate = the share of an app's App Store ratings that are 1–2 stars, taken from Apple's own published star distribution across every rating it has ever received.
It is deliberately not counted inside our written sample: that sample is pulled most-negative-first, so counting 1–2 stars within it would produce a number that contradicts the app's own star average — the first thing anyone checks. The sample is used only for the category breakdown: among people who wrote a complaint, what kind it is.
Two numbers, two different denominators, never mixed into one sentence. These pages are public and verifiable — the method is disclosed on each one. What we do not publish is the detail: phrase clusters, row-level classification, and named head-to-heads go only to the company they're about.
